Matt Windschitl is a Marine Corps veteran, works for Doll distributing, and has served as Republican Majority Leader and Speaker Pro Tem in the Iowa House of Representatives.

For nearly two decades, Matt has fought for conservative principles in Iowa—defending our Second Amendment rights, cutting taxes, and standing up for life. Defend the Second Amendment

Matt is a lifelong Second Amendment rights advocate who worked hard to help pass Iowa’s constitutional carry law and our state constitutional amendment protecting our second amendment rights. He’ll continue to protect our right to bear arms—no compromise.

Pro-Life Champion

Matt has consistently led the fight to protect the unborn and defend the sanctity of life and was instrumental in passing Iowa’s heartbeat bill—twice.

Cut Taxes & Government Red Tape

Matt has delivered historic tax relief in Iowa, including passing Iowa’s historic tax cuts that lowered your personal income tax to a 3.8% flat tax. He believes the government should work for the people, not against the people, and will be a constant fighter to get and keep the government out of your way.

Protect Iowa’s Agriculture & Economy

Matt will stand up to the bureaucrats and fight for the farmers, families, and job creators that keep Iowa strong. As a State Representative, Matt has previously received the Iowa Corn Growers Legislator of the Year award, been endorsed by the Iowa Farm Bureau as a Friend of Agriculture numerous times, and has been endorsed by the Association of Business & Industry Friend of Business.

Secure the Border & Uphold the Rule of Law

A strong supporter of President Trump’s national security agenda, Matt is an outspoken advocate for the work the administration is doing to protect our streets and communities. Matt will always fight to protect Americans and restore the rule of law.

Parents’ Rights in Education

Matt knows parents—not the government—should decide what’s best for their children. He will continue to fight back against woke indoctrination methods. He supports parents’ rights in choosing the best institution of education for their children, whether that be our fantastic public K12 institutions, private institutions, or those who choose to educate their children at home. As a homeschool graduate and father of two homeschool graduates, Matt understands the importance of options and choice in education.

Matt Windschitl has spent his life serving our country and standing up for the values that make Iowa great. In June 2001 at just 17 years old, he raised his right hand and took an oath to defend the Constitution as a United States Marine. That same commitment to duty led him from Iraq to the floor of the Iowa Legislature, where he has served as one of the state’s most effective conservative leaders for nearly two decades.

A lifelong Iowan, Matt was brought up with a deep respect for hard work, personal responsibility, and faith in God. After completing his homeschool education, Matt attended gunsmithing school before being deployed to Iraq in 2005. He was blessed with two beautiful daughters—his first, Anna, was born while he was deployed in Iraq, and his second, Addy, while he was serving in the Iowa House of Representatives.

After returning home from active duty, Matt ran for the Iowa House of Representatives at just 22 years old. He won—and quickly became a leading conservative voice in Des Moines. During his time in office, he continued serving in the Marine Corps Reserve, all while raising a family and working hard in Iowa’s private sector. Matt was honorably discharged in 2009 as a sergeant with multiple meritorious promotions.

Matt is the working class—because he’s lived it. He’s worked in his family’s gun shop, turned wrenches in the Walmart auto department, worked the rails at the railroad, and works in the warehouse loading beer for Doll Distributing. He’s never lost touch with the everyday Iowans who keep our communities running.

As a trained gunsmith and passionate defender of the Second Amendment, Matt has always believed in protecting our freedoms and empowering citizens—not the government. In the Iowa legislature, he rose to the position of House Majority Leader and led on critical conservative issues, including:

Passing constitutional carry, stand your ground, and restoring Second Amendment freedoms
Advancing some of the nation’s strongest pro-life protections
Delivering historic tax cuts for Iowa families and businesses
Fighting for smaller, more accountable government
